Daniel Saga’s life is about to change forever. At age eighteen, the next full moon will bring his first shift into wolf form. Daniel comes from a long line of betas, and his fervent prayer is that he not disappoint his family. But in the world where there are several types of werekin, there is a likelihood that he may end up a gamma, an omicron, or his worst fear—an omega. He is certain that becoming an alpha is not an option for him. Or is it?

Delvin Kish is an instructor in Alpha Academy, the elite institution where all alpha werekin throughout the seven realms must attend for three years upon reaching adulthood. Although lonely since the death of his mate, he loves the life he’s built, guiding younger alphas in the skills and temperament needed to live out their alpha creed.

In this first book of The Omega Curse series, a surprising turn of events places Daniel under Delvin’s tutelage, and sparks fly as the young man strives to discover his true self. In the company of his childhood best friend and new werekin comrades in the academy, he faces adventure as well as danger in the form of alpha adversaries angered by his presence in their exclusive club, and even the threat of death at the hands of unknown outside forces.

Alpha Academy Alpha Academy Series Book 1 edition by AY Venona Romance eBooks

The book has some great ideas -- the world is populated with weres -- werewolves, bears, (and others?). Gods walk the earth. The weres are classified into categories like alpha, beta, delta, zeta, omicron, omega, and others. The academy is the place where young weres are trained to defend the realm. The central character is a rare "Omega" were, with unusual powers. The vampires are out to kill him or his fiance, and so are some of his fellow weres.

Despite the good ideas, the writing just isn't up to the job. The vast majority of the scenes are completely underdeveloped, bare skeletons with hardly any meat to them. The transitions between scenes and even within scenes and dialog and thoughts are abrupt and confusing. Emotions go from placid to 100% rage with little explanation. If this were a movie, it'd be like somebody edited out every 3rd minute. Enough to be constantly confusing, but not enough that you can't sort of figure out what is going on. Nothing seems to really drive the plot except the sheer passage of time and a sudden urgency for the main character to get married.

The world building is extremely lacking. We know that there are these different weres, but we know almost nothing about what differentiates them. There is powerful magic in the world, but it plays a very minor role (I'm going to enchant you with a spell to make you stay silent about xxx).

Apart from a battle scene in the beginning (only mentioned, not described except its aftermath), and a battle scene at the end (which is described, but not in much detail), there is no "action" to speak of. Just dialog.

The world is apparently full of vampires and fae, but the the former only appear as anonymous enemies in the last chapter, and the latter get barely more than a sentence. There are apparently humans in the world, but we don't meet any, and we know nothing about the relationship between humans and weres. In fact, in my imagination, nothing outside the academy exists at all. There is mention of other kingdoms, but only in passing dialog. The academy is described as the "central" defense of the kingdom, which makes no logical sense (why would anyone make a training ground full of neophytes your central defense?). The enemies are 0 dimensional anonymous vague threats. There's a war with the vampires, but we know almost nothing about why and we don't even meet any vampires until the last chapter. There's fear of "ragnarok" but no explanation for why someone wants to start ragnarok.

For those who care, the sex elements are not graphic, merely implied. Doesn't get steamier than a kiss. And it seems like virtually every named character in the book is gay.

Ultimately this book is more of a rough draft proposal than a finished product.

Alpha Academy Alpha Academy Series Book 1 edition by AY Venona Romance eBooks Reviews

This book could havd been pretty good but it is poorly written. Therw were so many thoughts that were left unfinished. Characters had epiphanies but the reader is never told what they are. There are some big charcters, who are basically gods, but we don't get any of their mythology. How old is Delvin? How old is Alexander? Are these people immortal? I have no idea about a lot of these things and others. There are numerous plot points that are introduced but never explored in any detail. I fell like mybe the author is in middle school an had an adult write the sex scenes.
Daniel and Delvin

My heart stuttered many times while reading...
It's an extended wide story and every page was fascinating every page made me in some way... I think delirious .... because it was beyond my expectations.

Daniel is accepted at the academy without knowing for sure why and he is desired by almost every alpha, I loved this story soooo much!
He has only feelings and eyes for Delvin.

There is so much happening in this journey it's not to explain I only will tell my feelings.
All the interactions between the ones who live at the academy is just breathtaking put down.
There is constant a looming danger to start another Ragnarok. There are Kings and prince, kingdoms, werekin from four windsides, vampires...

The building up, to very important revelations with an impact no one can imagine, is just overwhelming.

There is love, respect, sensuality, lust, desire, friendship, hierarchy, angst.... you can say
the whole package for a great read. And a great read it was...
When you love a story with the most beautiful creatures.. take this one

Luckily I received this one and #2 from the author... so there I am now )
To be honest I gave up on this one 60% of the way through. I had a number of problems with it. First and foremost, I didn't like either of the two main characters. Delvin was a rude manwhore with a bad temper who treated Daniel like his boy toy property. Daniel seemed slutty and was all to ready to dump his friends whenever Delvin paid attention to him. The author makes use of information dumps about this world, a sign of amateur world building where an author wants the reader to know everything that they've imagined about the world without subtly working it in. Lots of times devices like characters sitting around talking or asking each other question, or a lecture is used to spew a bunch of information or backstory. The belief system is a strange mashup of Norse, Greek, and original gods, some of which are supposed to be living and some dead. Furthermore I didn't like that it was written in first person present tense which I find hard to do well and always seems a little jarring to me. There also seemed to be a lot of characters to keep up with, I had to write a list to keep them straight. At last I just decided that I didn't care anymore and decided to give up. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't try another book by this author but I won't be following this series.
This is the first book of the series. I read it in one day. I good not out it down. It had excitement with romance and made you sad when friends were separated.
I look forward to the second book.
Was a good fun read enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the next one. I hope it comes out soon.

While I liked this book and the premise, I really didn't like the love interest Delvin. He was sort of a flat character that came across as very manipulative and not really caring about Daniel. I do like the omega curse idea. That might be worth reading more into the future.
